These wooden boats are inspired by the Maruko-bune wooden sailing vessels of Lake Biwa, Honshu, Japan. They are designed for short, secluded stays on Lake Kussharo in Hokkaido and consist of three distinct units: a bedroom boat, a bathhouse boat, and a dining boat.
These units collectively create a self-contained living space. An electric-powered tugboat maneuvers them into position and arranges them in a circular formation around a floating sun platform.
These vessels are suitable for year-round use, and supplies are conveniently stored onshore. They are equipped with self-contained water systems, using small gas furnaces for both water heating and indoor climate control. Rechargeable low-voltage batteries provide power for interior and exterior lighting.
